Quick Recap on Sustainable Clothing Swaps

Sustainable Fabrics: What You Wear Matters — On Land & In the Sea

At Do Good Swimwear, we believe what you wear should feel good, move with you, and do good for the planet. From everyday basics to swim and surf suits, fabric choices matter more than most people realize.

Fashion is one of the world’s largest polluters — but the good news? Choosing better materials is one of the most powerful ways to reduce impact without sacrificing comfort or style.

Here’s a simple breakdown of sustainable fabric options we love, why they matter, and what to consider when choosing eco-conscious clothing.

 Sustainable Fabrics for Everyday Wear

Organic Cotton
Soft, breathable, and grown without toxic pesticides. Organic cotton protects soil health and farmer communities while reducing water pollution.
The trade-off: It costs more than conventional cotton and can wear faster if not blended or cared for properly.

Linen
Made from flax, linen is one of the lowest-impact fabrics available. It’s breathable, durable, and naturally biodegradable.
The trade-off: Less stretch and wrinkles easily — but that lived-in look is part of the charm.

Hemp
A true regenerative fiber. Hemp grows fast, improves soil health, and requires very little water.
The trade-off: Not widely available yet and often blended to improve softness.

TENCEL™ (Lyocell & Modal)
Silky, breathable fibers made from responsibly sourced wood pulp in a closed-loop system.
The trade-off: Higher cost and best performance when blended thoughtfully.

Sustainable Fabrics for Swimwear

ECONYL®
Regenerated nylon made from discarded fishing nets and industrial waste. It performs like virgin nylon — without pulling new plastic from the earth.
Why we love it: It helps clean up ocean waste while delivering durability, stretch, and support.

REPREVE®
Made from recycled plastic bottles and commonly used in linings and activewear.
The trade-off: Like all synthetics, it sheds microplastics — washing responsibly matters.

Amni Soul Eco®
An innovative nylon designed to break down faster in landfill conditions than traditional synthetics.
The trade-off: Still petroleum-based, but a meaningful step toward reducing long-term textile waste.

Sustainable Fabrics for Active & Performance Wear

Performance clothing requires stretch, support, and durability — which is why recycled synthetics are currently the most realistic option.

Using recycled nylon and polyester:

  • Extends the life of existing plastic

  • Reduces reliance on virgin materials

  • Supports long-lasting, functional garments

The reality: There’s no perfect solution yet — but recycled fibers are progress in action.

The Honest Side of Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fabrics:

  • Cost more to produce ethically

  • Require better design to achieve great fit

  • Aren’t always widely available

But choosing fewer, better-made pieces means less waste, longer wear, and more intention.

Doing Better, One Choice at a Time

Sustainability isn’t about perfection — it’s about progress. Every time you choose organic, recycled, or responsibly sourced fabrics, you’re helping protect oceans, reduce waste, and support a healthier future.
